LA River

The LA River is a major, concrete-lined waterway running through Los Angeles, designed to channel rainwater and storm runoff away from neighborhoods to prevent flooding. Originally a natural river, it was heavily modified in the 20th century for flood control, urban development, and transportation. Today, it serves multiple purposes: providing flood protection, offering recreational spaces, and supporting ecological restoration efforts. The river spans about 51 miles, connecting the San Fernando Valley to the Pacific Ocean, and has become both a critical infrastructure element and a site for community projects aimed at improving green spaces and environmental resilience.
