L-cut

An L-cut is a film editing technique where the audio from the current scene continues to play while the visual shifts to the next scene, or vice versa. Imagine watching two scenes where the sound overlaps: the audio from one scene carries over into the next scene's visuals, creating a smooth transition. This method helps maintain continuity, enhance emotional flow, and make the cut feel more natural. It’s called an “L-cut” because, when viewed on an editing timeline, the audio and video tracks form an L shape, illustrating the overlapping edit.
