L box study

The L-box study is a simple experiment used to evaluate how well a person can walk and navigate through a narrow doorway or doorway-like obstacle. The person walks toward the box, which has an opening on one side, and then turns and exits through the opening. Researchers observe how the person manages turning and fitting through the gap, which can reveal balance, coordination, and mobility issues—especially in those recovering from stroke or injury. It’s a practical way to assess functional movement and detect difficulties in real-world situations involving turning and stepping through tight spaces.
