The Kwakwaka’wakw, also known as Kwakuitl, are an Indigenous First Nations people primarily from the coastal regions of British Columbia, Canada. They have a rich cultural heritage characterized by elaborate art, ceremonial practices, and a deep connection to the land and sea. Historically, they engaged in fishing, hunting, and gathering, especially salmon, and used cedar wood for building and crafting. Their social organization includes complex kinship systems and ceremonial hierarchies. Today, they continue to preserve and promote their cultural traditions while also engaging in contemporary life, advocating for Indigenous rights and sovereignty.
