Kushite kings and queens
Kushite kings and queens ruled ancient Kush, a civilization south of Egypt, from around 750 BCE to 350 CE. They were powerful leaders and military figures, often seen as heirs to Egypt’s pharaohs, with whom they shared cultural and religious ties. Kushite rulers built impressive pyramids and cities, and their society was organized around strong monarchic authority. Queens, known as Kandakes or Candaces, held significant power, sometimes ruling independently. Their legacy reflects a rich history of art, religion, and political influence in northeastern Africa.
