Kurobe Dam

Kurobe Dam is a large hydroelectric dam located in Japan’s Northern Alps, built on the Kurobe River. It was constructed between 1956 and 1963 to generate electricity, help control flooding, and supply water to nearby regions. The dam creates a vast reservoir that stores water, which is then released to turn turbines, producing power. It stands about 186 meters tall and is one of Japan’s tallest dams. Besides its functional role, Kurobe Dam is also a popular tourist attraction, offering scenic views and a bridge that visitors can walk across for a closer view of its impressive structure.
