Kurdish region
The Kurdish region primarily refers to areas in Iraq, south-eastern Turkey, north-west Iran, and northern Syria, where Kurds, an ethnic group with their own language and culture, constitute a majority. It functions as a semi-autonomous part of Iraq, known as the Kurdistan Region, with its own government, security forces, and limited independence. The Kurds have sought greater autonomy and recognition due to a shared identity and history of struggle for self-determination, amid complex regional politics. While not an independent country, the Kurdish region has established governance structures and plays a significant role in regional stability and conflicts.
