Kronstadt uprising
The Kronstadt uprising in 1921 was a major rebellion by sailors, soldiers, and workers at the Kronstadt naval base near Petrograd (now Saint Petersburg). They initially supported the Bolsheviks during the Russian Revolution but grew increasingly disillusioned with the communist government, demanding greater freedoms, democracy, and better living conditions. The uprising was seen as a threat to Bolshevik control. The government responded with a brutal military attack, crushing the rebellion and reaffirming strict authoritarian rule. It highlighted tensions within the early Soviet government and the challenges of balancing revolutionary ideals with political stability.
