Krider's Red-tailed Hawk

Krider's Red-tailed Hawk is a subspecies of the widespread Red-tailed Hawk, found mainly in the southwestern United States. It’s a large bird of prey known for its broad, rounded wings and a short, thick tail. Its plumage is usually a warm, reddish-brown on the back and upper wings, with a pale underside and a distinctive dark belly band. These hawks are excellent hunters, soaring high to spot small mammals and birds, then swooping down swiftly to catch their prey. They are adaptable, often seen perched on power lines or soaring over open country, playing a crucial role in controlling rodent populations.
