Krajina Serbs

Krajina Serbs are ethnic Serbs who lived in the Krajina region of Croatia, particularly during the late 20th century. This area became a focal point during the Croatian War of Independence (1991–1995), when many Serbs in Krajina sought to establish their own territory amid Croatia’s push for independence from Yugoslavia. The conflict led to significant violence, displacement, and complex political tensions. After Croatia regained control, many Serbs fled or were expelled, and the region has struggled with rebuilding and reconciliation. The Krajina Serbs are recognized as a distinct community with historical ties to Serbia and the broader Yugoslav identity.
