Kotte Period

The Kotte Period (1400s–1500s) was a significant era in Sri Lanka's history when the Kingdom of Kotte thrived as a powerful and culturally rich state. Located near present-day Colombo, it saw advancements in art, architecture, and Buddhism. The period was marked by strong leadership, diplomatic relations with Europeans like the Portuguese, and the development of a centralized government. Kotte played a key role in shaping the island’s history, blending traditional Sri Lankan culture with new influences, and provided a foundation for later kingdoms in Sri Lanka.
