Kosovo (Kosovo Declaration of Independence)
Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008, asserting itself as a separate, sovereign state. This move followed decades of ethnic tensions and conflict between the mainly ethnic Albanian population in Kosovo and the Serbian government, which claims the territory as its own. While many countries recognize Kosovo's independence, including the United States and a majority of European nations, Serbia and some others do not, citing historical and legal reasons. The declaration aimed to establish a peaceful, self-governing state for Kosovo's majority population, but its status remains politically complex and contested internationally.
