Korean War Armistice Agreement

The Korean War Armistice Agreement, signed in 1953, ended active fighting between North Korea and South Korea, effectively pausing the conflict while peace treaties were not finalized. It established the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), a border separating the two koreas, and laid out procedures for armament and prisoner exchanges. The agreement was mediated by the UN Command, primarily led by the United States for South Korea and Chinese and North Korean representatives for the North. While it stopped fighting, it left the Korean Peninsula technically still at war, as no formal peace treaty was signed.
