Korean Dynastic History

Korean dynastic history includes several key kingdoms: Gojoseon (legendary founding), three main periods—Goguryeo, Baekje, and Silla (from 57 BCE–668 CE), which united much of Korea; followed by Balhae and Later Three Kingdoms; then the Unified Silla and Goryeo (918–1392), which gave Korea its name. The Joseon Dynasty (1392–1897) ruled for centuries, shaping culture and governance. In 1910, Korea was annexed by Japan until 1945. Post-World War II, Korea split into North and South, each with its own government but sharing a long, interconnected history.
