Korean Armistice Agreement

The Korean Armistice Agreement, signed on July 27, 1953, effectively ended the fighting in the Korean War, which lasted from 1950 to 1953. Although it paused military operations between North and South Korea, it did not officially end the war, as a peace treaty was never signed. The agreement established the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) to act as a buffer between the two Koreas, and it included provisions for the exchange of prisoners. To this day, the two Koreas remain technically at war, with ongoing tensions and no formal peace agreement.
