Kontakion

A Kontakion is a type of hymn used in Eastern Orthodox and Byzantine Catholic services. It is a poetic, sung prayer or reflection that typically summarizes or highlights the main themes of a religious feast, event, or saint. Often composed with rich imagery and enhanced by musical melody, the Kontakion aims to inspire devotion and deepen spiritual understanding.
