Kojiki
The Kojiki, meaning "Records of Ancient Matters," is Japan's oldest historical text, compiled in 712 CE. It is a collection of mythological stories, legends, and early history that explains the origins of Japan, its gods (kami), and some of its earliest rulers. The Kojiki serves as a foundational cultural document, blending mythology with historical accounts, and plays a significant role in Shinto beliefs. Its purpose was to preserve Japan's national identity and divine ancestry, influencing Japanese culture, religion, and understanding of their mythic origins.
