Koineization

Koineization is the linguistic process where different local dialects or languages blend over time to form a new, common dialect called a "koine." This often happens when diverse groups interact regularly, such as in trade, conquest, or migration, leading to a simplified and mutually understandable language. An example is the Greek Koine, which developed from various Greek dialects during the Hellenistic period, facilitating communication across a broad region. Essentially, koineization helps communities develop a shared means of communication, reducing linguistic barriers and fostering social cohesion.
