Kocher's sign
Kocher's sign is a clinical indicator used to assess hyperthyroidism, particularly Graves' disease. When gentle pressure is applied above the eye socket, an individual with hyperthyroidism may exhibit a noticeable upward movement of the eyelids, known as eyelid retraction. This occurs because excess thyroid hormones increase the sensitivity of tissues around the eyes, causing the eyelids to elevate abnormally when the area is touched or examined. Recognizing Kocher's sign helps doctors in diagnosing thyroid-related eye issues and assessing the severity of hyperthyroidism.
