Knowledge Problem

The Knowledge Problem refers to the difficulty in centrally planning an economy because no single individual or authority has all the information needed to efficiently allocate resources. Since economic conditions, preferences, and circumstances are constantly changing and widely dispersed among people, it’s nearly impossible for a central planner to know everything required to make optimal decisions. This makes decentralized decision-making, where individuals respond to local knowledge and prices, more effective at efficiently coordinating economic activity.
