KMT

KMT, or the Kuomintang, is a Chinese political party founded in 1919. It played a central role in modern China's history, leading the nationalist movement to unify China and promote modernization in the early 20th century. After losing the Chinese Civil War to the Communist Party, the KMT retreated to Taiwan in 1949, where it governed and developed the island’s political and economic systems. Today, the KMT remains one of Taiwan’s major political parties, advocating for Chinese cultural heritage, economic development, and closer ties with Mainland China, while operating within Taiwan’s democratic political framework.
