Kiwi (bird)

The kiwi is a small, flightless bird endemic to New Zealand, known for its distinctive long beak and shy nature. It belongs to the ratite family, which includes other large, flightless birds like ostriches. Kiwis are nocturnal, spending much of their time foraging on the forest floor for insects, worms, and small invertebrates. They have well-developed senses of smell and hearing to navigate and find food in the dark. The kiwi holds cultural significance for New Zealanders and is a national symbol. Due to habitat loss and introduced predators, some kiwi species are endangered, prompting conservation efforts to protect these unique birds.
