Kingdom of Mercia
The Kingdom of Mercia was one of the prominent Anglo-Saxon kingdoms in what is now England, flourishing from the 6th to the 9th centuries. Situated in the Midlands, Mercia played a crucial role in early English history, notably during its peak in the 8th century under King Offa, who established boundaries and improved trade. Mercia was known for its rich culture and contributions to Christianity, including significant monasteries. It eventually lost power to the expanding influence of neighboring kingdoms, particularly after the Viking invasions, leading to its integration into the emerging Kingdom of England.
