King Stanisław II Augustus
King Stanisław II Augustus was the last king of Poland, ruling from 1764 to 1795. He is known for his efforts to reform and modernize the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, promoting education, arts, and laws to strengthen the state. Despite his reforms, internal conflicts and external pressures from neighboring powers led to the country's partitions, which divided Poland among Russia, Prussia, and Austria. Stanisław II Augustus's reign marked the end of independent Poland, but he is remembered for his intellectual pursuits and attempts to preserve Polish sovereignty during turbulent times.
