King Edwin of Northumbria
King Edwin of Northumbria (c. 585–633 AD) was a 7th-century ruler of Northumbria in northern England. He is notable for unifying several smaller kingdoms into one, strengthening his realm. Initially pagan, Edwin converted to Christianity around 627 AD after embracing the faith of King Oswald of Bernicia and the influence of the missionary Paulinus. His conversion helped spread Christianity throughout Northumbria and beyond. Edwin is remembered for his leadership, military successes, and the role he played in shaping early medieval England’s political and religious landscape.
