Kimmelstiel-Wilson syndrome
Kimmelstiel-Wilson syndrome is a kidney condition associated with longstanding diabetes. It involves the buildup of abnormal tissue in the tiny filtering units of the kidney (glomeruli), leading to damage and impaired kidney function. This condition is characterized by the presence of specific nodules called nodular glomerulosclerosis. It is a common cause of diabetic kidney disease and can result in reduced kidney ability to filter blood effectively, potentially leading to kidney failure if not managed properly. Managing blood sugar levels and blood pressure can help slow its progression.
