Kimberley Mine

Kimberley Mine, also known as the Big Hole, is a famous open-pit diamond mine in South Africa. It was one of the world's largest hand-dug excavation sites, where miners extracted diamonds from a kimberlite pipe. The mine played a significant role during the diamond rush in the late 19th century, attracting thousands of prospectors. Today, it is a historical site and museum, illustrating the scale of early diamond mining operations. The open pit is approximately 463 meters deep and 1,100 meters wide, serving as a reminder of the engineering efforts and the importance of diamonds in global trade.
