Kim's supervenience thesis suggests that mental states, such as beliefs and desires, are dependent on physical states of the brain in a way that changes in the mental level are necessarily linked to changes in the physical level. In other words, mental properties "supervene" on physical properties, meaning any difference in mental states must correspond to a difference in brain states.
