Kidney Transplantation Techniques
Kidney transplantation involves surgically replacing a diseased kidney with a healthy one from a donor. The surgeon connects the new kidney’s blood vessels to the recipient’s blood supply and attaches the ureter, which drains urine from the kidney into the bladder. There are two main techniques: the standard approach, where the new kidney is placed in the lower abdomen, and the laparoscopic or minimally invasive method, which uses small incisions and special tools for faster recovery. The goal is to restore kidney function, improve quality of life, and reduce the need for dialysis.
