Kidney Diseases
Kidney diseases involve damage or dysfunction of the kidneys, organs responsible for filtering waste, excess fluids, and maintaining balance in the body. Common types include chronic kidney disease, which worsens over time and may lead to kidney failure, and acute kidney injury, a sudden loss of function often caused by illness or injury. Risk factors include high blood pressure, diabetes, and family history. Symptoms can include swelling, fatigue, changes in urination, and nausea, but early stages may have no symptoms. Treatment focuses on managing underlying causes, slowing progression, and, in severe cases, dialysis or kidney transplantation.
