Khorasan (historical region)

Khorasan is a historical region in northeastern Iran that historically encompassed parts of present-day Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Its name means "Sunrise" in Persian, reflecting its position east of Persia. Historically, Khorasan was a major cultural, political, and economic center during the Islamic Golden Age, known for its scholarly contributions and strategic significance along the Silk Road. The region's borders have shifted over time, and today "Khorasan" often refers to specific provinces in Iran, but historically it covered a larger, diverse area significant in Central Asian history.
