Khmelnytsky Uprising
The Khmelnytsky Uprising (1648–1657) was a rebellion led by Ukrainian Cossacks under Bohdan Khmelnytsky against Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth rule. It aimed to gain autonomy for Ukraine, which faced political chaos, religious tensions, and economic hardship. The uprising resulted in significant military victories and eventually led to the Treaty of Zboriv, granting a degree of independence. However, ongoing conflict with Poland and shifting alliances, including with Russia, made the situation complex. The uprising is considered a pivotal event in Ukrainian history, marking a shift toward national consciousness and challenging Polish dominance in the region.
