Khilafat League

The Khilafat League was an Indian political organization formed in the early 20th century to support the Ottoman Caliphate, which was seen as a symbol of Islamic unity and authority. It emerged after World War I, when the Ottoman Empire was weakening and facing threats from colonial powers. Indian Muslims, led by leaders like Maulana Mohammad Ali and Maulana Shaukat Ali, established the league to defend the Caliphate’s sovereignty and protest against its dismantling by Western powers. The league aimed to mobilize Muslim solidarity and preserve Islamic political influence within the changing global order.
