
Khasi people
The Khasi people are an indigenous ethnic group primarily residing in the northeastern Indian state of Meghalaya. Known for their matrilineal society, lineage and inheritance pass through women. They have a rich cultural heritage, including vibrant festivals, traditional music, dance, and unique Khasi script. The community practices agriculture, especially jhum cultivation (slash-and-burn), and values environmental conservation.
