Khanty

The Khanty are an indigenous people native to western Siberia in Russia, primarily inhabiting the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug. They traditionally relied on hunting, fishing, and gathering, especially reindeer herding, to sustain their communities. Today, many Khanty continue these practices while also engaging in modern industries like oil and gas extraction that have transformed their homeland. They speak the Khanty language, a part of the Uralic language family, and maintain rich cultural traditions, including music, storytelling, and ceremonies that preserve their identity amidst economic and social changes.
