Khalq (Khalq Party)

The Khalq Party was a communist political organization in Afghanistan established in the 1960s, affiliated with the broader People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA). Its members were predominantly from the rural and working-class populations, advocating for radical social reforms and aligning with Soviet-style socialism. The Khalq leadership played a significant role in the 1978 Saur Revolution, which led to the establishment of a socialist government in Afghanistan. Their rule was marked by efforts to modernize the country through land reforms and secular policies, but also by political repression and conflict, culminating in years of civil war and intervention by foreign powers.
