Khalkha Mongols

The Khalkha Mongols are the largest subgroup of Mongolia’s ethnic Mongols, primarily residing in Mongolia’s central and eastern regions. They speak Khalkha Mongolian, a dialect of the Mongolian language, and have a rich cultural heritage rooted in nomadic traditions, horseback riding, and shamanistic practices. Historically, they played a central role in the Mongol Empire's expansion under Genghis Khan. Today, they are the dominant ethnic group in Mongolia, contributing to the country's cultural identity, national politics, and preservation of traditional customs.
