Ketonuria

Ketonuria refers to the presence of ketones in the urine. Ketones are substances produced when the body breaks down fat for energy, usually in response to insufficient carbohydrate intake, such as during fasting, low-carb diets, or uncontrolled diabetes. When ketones accumulate, they can spill over into the urine, which can be detected through specific tests. While it can indicate that the body is efficiently using fat for fuel, high levels of ketones may signal a medical condition, such as diabetic ketoacidosis, that requires attention. It's important to monitor ketone levels, especially for those with diabetes.
