Kermadec Trench

The Kermadec Trench is an oceanic trench located in the South Pacific Ocean near New Zealand. It is one of the deepest parts of the world's oceans, reaching depths of around 10,000 meters (about 32,800 feet). The trench forms where the Pacific Plate is gradually sinking beneath the Indo-Australian Plate, a process called subduction. This tectonic activity causes earthquakes and contributes to volcanic activity in the region. The trench is part of a larger system of underwater valleys and plays a key role in Earth's geological processes, supporting unique deep-sea ecosystems.
