Kenya's Independence Movement
Kenya’s independence movement was a struggle by Kenyan people, especially the Kikuyu, Luo, and Kikuyu communities, to end British colonial rule. It gained momentum in the 1950s with protests, political activism, and the formation of organizations like the Kenya African National Union (KANU). The movement challenged laws that marginalized Africans and sought political self-determination. The Mau Mau uprising (1952-1960) was a notable militant effort advocating for land rights and freedom. After years of resistance, international pressure, and negotiations, Kenya achieved independence on December 12, 1963, establishing itself as a sovereign nation.
