Kendra's Law
Kendra’s Law is a New York State law that allows for court-ordered assisted outpatient treatment (AOT) for individuals with mental health conditions who are at risk of harm to themselves or others or who may experience serious deterioration without help. This law aims to provide the necessary mental health services while respecting personal rights, ensuring that those who need treatment receive consistent care outside of hospital settings. It involves a legal process where a judge can mandate treatment plans, such as medication and therapy, to help individuals stabilize and improve their well-being in the community.
