KEK

KEK (Key Encryption Key) is a secure key used to protect or encrypt other encryption keys, called data keys. Think of it as a master key that safeguards smaller keys used to encrypt data, ensuring that these data keys remain confidential. KEKs are stored securely, often in hardware modules, and are used to securely transfer or store data keys, so even if data is intercepted, the actual encryption keys remain protected from unauthorized access. This layered approach enhances overall data security by separating key management from data encryption.
