Kawa Model
The Kawa Model is a way to understand a person's life and well-being by comparing it to a natural river. In this model, the river’s flow, rocks, driftwood, and banks represent different aspects of a person’s life—goals, challenges, resources, and environment. Just as a river’s health depends on its surroundings and flow, a person’s well-being depends on how these elements interact. Occupational therapy uses this model to help individuals identify areas for improvement, promote balance, and enhance their overall quality of life by visualizing and addressing life’s various components holistically.
