Katz ADL (Activities of Daily Living)

Katz ADL, or Katz Index of Independence in Activities of Daily Living, is a tool used to assess an individual's ability to carry out basic self-care tasks. These tasks include bathing, dressing, using the restroom, transferring (moving from one position to another), continence (controlling bladder and bowel), and feeding. This assessment helps determine a person's level of independence and ability to live alone or require assistance. Healthcare providers use it to guide care planning and support services, especially for older adults or those with disabilities.
