Kataklysmos

Kataklysmos, also known as the Flood Festival, is a traditional Greek celebration held on Pentecost (the 50th day after Easter). It commemorates the biblical story of the Great Flood and symbolizes renewal and cleansing. Participants often participate in water-related rituals, such as swimming or sprinkling water, representing rebirth and purification. The event includes religious services, processions, music, and communal festivities. Originating in Cyprus and Greece, Kataklysmos emphasizes spiritual renewal, historical tradition, and community bonding through water-centered activities that mark the arrival of summer.
