Karen National Union

The Karen National Union (KNU) is a political organization representing the Karen people, one of Myanmar’s ethnic minorities. Founded in 1947, it seeks greater autonomy and rights within Myanmar, advocating for the protection of Karen culture, language, and political interests. The KNU has been involved in a long-running civil conflict with the Myanmar government, often engaging in armed resistance to achieve these goals.
