Karabakh War
The Nagorno-Karabakh War was a conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, a mostly ethnic Armenian enclave within Azerbaijan's borders. After the Soviet Union's collapse, tensions escalated into full-scale war from 1988 to 1994, resulting in Armenian control over the territory. A fragile ceasefire held until renewed fighting erupted in 2020, leading to Azerbaijan regaining significant territory. The conflict is rooted in ethnic, territorial, and political disputes, causing thousands of deaths and displacing many residents. Despite ceasefires, sporadic clashes continue, making it a complex and enduring regional conflict.
