Kanza (Kaw Nation relationship)

The Kanza, or Kaw Nation, are a Native American tribe historically from the central Great Plains. Their relationship with the U.S. government involved treaties and land agreements that eventually led to their relocation and confinement to reservations. Over time, legal and political processes recognized their sovereignty as a tribe, allowing them to govern themselves, preserve their culture, and manage their affairs. Today, the Kaw Nation maintains a government-to-government relationship with the U.S., advocating for their community’s rights, heritage, and economic development while respecting their status as a federally recognized tribe.
