KANU (Kenya African National Union)

KANU, or Kenya African National Union, was the dominant political party in Kenya from 1960s to the late 1990s. It was founded to unite various ethnic and regional groups under a common political platform advocating for independence from British rule. After independence in 1963, KANU became the ruling party, promoting national development and stability. It was led bykey figures like Jomo Kenyatta and Daniel arap Moi. Although it helped Kenya gain independence, KANU also faced criticism for encouraging centralized power and limited political freedoms during its long reign.
