Kanjur and Tanjur (Two collections of Tibetan Buddhist scriptures)
The Kanjur and Tanjur are two of Tibet’s most important collections of Buddhist texts. The Kanjur, meaning "Translated Words," contains Sutras—teachings of the Buddha—serving as the core doctrinal scriptures. The Tanjur, meaning "Translated Treatises," includes commentaries, philosophical writings, and monastic rules that explain and interpret these teachings. Together, they form a comprehensive repository of Tibetan Buddhist doctrine, practice, and tradition, preserved in Tibetan language and used by monks and scholars for study, meditation, and spiritual guidance. These collections exemplify Tibet’s commitment to safeguarding and transmitting Buddhist wisdom across generations.
